Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) president Vincent Nzamwita has been absolved of any wrongdoing in the mishandling of a project to construct a four-star hotel that was supposed to be built at a cost totaling over Rwf4bn.

The funding for the hotel is supposed to be provided by the global football governing body, FIFA.

However, the Kicukiro District-based Nyarugunga Primary Court handed a six-month jail sentence each to the federation secretary general, Olivier Murindahabi and Eng Eric Muhirwa, a consultant, who was working on the project.

None of the accused was present as the judge made the ruling.

Meanwhile, court said prosecution failed to provide enough evidence to convict the trio on both corruption and nepotism charges, but instead preferred to jail Mulindahabi and Muhirwa for mishandling the project that was in the interest of the general public.

Mulindahabi and Muhirwa were arrested in March, meaning that if time served is put into account; they could be out within two months. Prosecution had sought three years and a fine of Rwf3 million for each of the accused.
