Duo bow out of Kenya Tennis Open

Rwanda’s tennis duo of Ernest Habiyambere and Olivier Havugimana had their journey at the on-going Britam Kenya Open Championship ended on Thursday after suffering defeats in their respective quarter-finals clashes.

Rwanda’s tennis duo of Ernest Habiyambere and Olivier Havugimana had their journey at the on-going Britam Kenya Open Championship ended on Thursday after suffering defeats in their respective quarter-finals clashes.

Rwanda’s number one Habiyambere was knocked out by his Ugandan counterpart, Duncan Mugabe at Nairobi club court eight in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.

Habiyambere had beaten Kenyan Derrick Ominde in second round in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to set up a quarter-final meeting with Mugabe.

Havugimana was also knocked out by Kenyan Ismael Mzai also in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at Nairobi club court seven.  Rwanda’s number two had beaten Albert Njogu from Kenyan in three sets; 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 in the second round.

For reaching the quarter-finals on their debut appearance, the duo will pocket Ksh12500 (about Rwf96,900) each.
