MTN Group has appointed Rob Shuteras the new Group president and chief executive officer. Shuteras is expected to take up the position by July1 next year, the firm said in a statement. The South African national is the current CEO of the European cluster at Vodafone Group and has extensive experience in telecoms and banking having held senior management roles at Vodacom Group, Standard Bank and Nedbank prior to joining Vodafone Group.

"MTN is confident that Shuteras will bring experience and new insights to the CEO role having served for many years in the telecoms sector both in Africa and Europe, as well as in banking where his expertise will come in handy as MTN continues to develop its new business strategy,” the statement said.

The firm’s board also appointed Godfrey Motsa the vice-president for South and East Africa (excluding South Africa) as it moves to enhance further the governance and business operations. Motsa, who takes office on July 1, has worked with Vodacom, where he was chief officer for consumer business, and previously headed Vodacom operations in the DR Congo and Lesotho.

"Motsa brings 10 years of experience of telecoms in the region to MTN,” the telecom said. The Group also made other executive and noon-executive changes. It said the appointments are aimed at strengthening the telecom’s management, as well as enhancing governance and strategy, according to the firm.
