RSSB must invest in affordable homes

I wonder why RSSB (Rwanda Social Security Board) is not investing in affordable housing. They are rather making huge investments: the cost of houses under construction in Gaculiro is way above what an average Rwandan worker can afford.

RE: "Why housing agency should invest in affordable housing” (The New Times, June 9).

I wonder why RSSB (Rwanda Social Security Board) is not investing in affordable housing. They are rather making huge investments: the cost of houses under construction in Gaculiro is way above what an average Rwandan worker can afford.

All over the world, affordable houses are built by insurance companies, including managers of social security savings, and not by the private sector.

You can check in Nordic countries such Sweden, Norway… or Singapore – which is a role model for Rwanda in different areas.

I think we should borrow a leaf from those countries. Otherwise, we are building ghost cities.
