Patriots Basketball Club will be hoping to be the first team to book a semi-final slot in the ongoing Gisembe memorial tournament when they host United Generation Basketball (UGB) in their final Group B fixture at Amahoro Indoor Stadium on Wednesday.

The reigning league champions have proved to be serious title contenders after winning their first two games on Saturday and Sunday to boost their chances of finishing on top of group B to seal a semi-final berth that is expected to be played on June 5.

Following their final league showdown against IPRC South that they went on to win 52-45, Patriots begun their Gisembe campaign on Saturday against the Huye-based side, IPRC South to win the game 64-46 before overcoming APR 66-61 in a hard fought game on Sunday.

"Our target is to finish on top of the group and we are ready to do what it takes to win each of our games despite the fact that every competing club is difficult to beat,” Patriot’s point guard Aristide Mugabe told Times Sport.

Elsewhere, tournament organizers and defending champions Espoir tied in group A also recorded their first win on Sunday defeating IPRC Kigali 78-61 while IPRC Kigali had also beaten U-18 Boys team on Saturday 61-55.

The last group A and B fixtures will be played on Saturday with U-18 boys teams taking on Espoir while IPRC South play APR to determine who qualifies for the semi-finals.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals and the international tournament that is scheduled for June 10-12.
