The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda, has told Police recruits attending basic training course that Rwanda National Police (RNP) prioritises training as an effective tool in policing.

Marizamunda said maximum discipline is one of the RNP key pillars in policing.

Marizamunda made the remarks on May 27 as he led a team of senior police officers to assess the progress and readiness of the 12th intake of the Basic Police course, currently underway at the Police Training School (PTS) in Gishari, Rwamagana District.

A total of 885 recruits are part of the intake, 217 of them females.

"You must be characterised by discipline at all time; discipline is also about teamwork. In the Force, you have to always work closely with your colleagues and Rwandans in general to serve them to the best of your expectations,” he told the recruits.

"Understand your responsibilities and execute them in time and effectively,” he added.

During yesterday’s event, the recruits also demonstrated the acquired skills in paramilitary science, physical fitness and internal security operations, among others.

They also demonstrated foot and arms drills, cordon and search, patrolling and public order management.

"From the demonstrations you exhibited, you are at a good level and we will soon be welcoming you to the policing field. Remember the demonstrations you’ve just showed will be part of your daily assignments after this training,” Marizamunda, who represented the Inspector General of Police at the event, said.

He, however, reminded them that besides the demonstrations, the "ground of operation may be different and challenging.”
