Rwanda will not host the 41st edition of the CECAFA Kagame Cup that was expected to be held from June 18 to July 2.

The development comes after Tanzania which was supposed to host the two-week competition pulled out citing a busy international schedule.

CECAFA Secretary General Nicolas Musonyi told Times Sport in a phone interview, yesterday, that a new host nation will be announced before Sunday.

"We are searching for an alternative country from the region and probably tomorrow (Friday) or the following day we shall let you know of the new hosts,” said Musonyi

However, FERWAFA officials told Times Sport that although they haven’t been requested to host the competition, it is too soon for the country to host the event.

"We are yet to receive any request from CECAFA asking us (Rwanda) to host this year’s tournament. However, we are aware Tanzania will not be hosting it,” said FERWAFA acting Secretary General Felicite Rwemalika.

Rwemalika added that; "If we happen to receive the request, obviously we shall respond; however, given the time left and what we also have in the coming days, I am not sure if we can stage it.”

Rwanda has hosted the event four times, in 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2010.
