Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has ordered Sports Club Kiyovu to pay former coach Innocent Seninga Rwf6m for unlawful dismissal.

Seninga, who is currently the head coach of Rubavu-based Etincelles FC, was dismissed on January 14, by over allegations of underperforming and unprofessional conduct.

The former Isonga FC coach joined Kiyovu on August 5, last year, on a one-year contract which was supposed to expire on August 5 this year, but was fired after five months on the job over not only underperforming, but also for unprofessional conduct as a head coach.

Seninga, through his lawyer Emile Ngiruwonsanga, petitioned FERWAFA disciplinary committee arguing that his client was illegally sacked and that his contract should be paid in full and damages awarded.

"After hearing from both parties, we found that Kiyovu are guilty of sacking Seninga contrary to what the binding contract specifies,” a statement from FERWAFA said.

"The Committee therefore orders Kiyovu to pay in full Seninga his salary for the remaining period worth Rwf6m. However no damages will be paid since his lawyer did not provide evidence,” the statement added.

The 37-year-old Seninga, who has previously coached division two side Isonga FC, was hired by Etincelles FC recently to save the club from relegation after a poor run of results.

After Seninga’s sacking, Kiyovu brought in Yves Rwasamanzi who has now moved the club to a 6th place on the national football league table with 41 points after 12 wins, five draws and nine losses in 26 games.
