Gor Mahia coach Tom Ogweno has challenged Amavubi and Gor Mahia striker Jacques Tuyisenge to clinch this year’s Kenya Premier League (KPL) Golden Boot after bagging his first Soka Fans player of the month Award for April on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old has so far scored 5 goals in 7 matches and his coach is backing him to go on a goal scoring run which can surpass last season’s golden boot winner Jesse Were’s tally of 22 goals.

"Tuyisenge is a player who knows what he needs in football so he is carrying out his job very well. He is a great player and I think he is coping well with the transition from the Rwandan league to the KPL.”

"This is his first season but he has already done well in the first leg. He has everything that a striker needs to excel. He is still adapting to the league and once he is fully acclimatized with Kenyan football, he can challenge for the Golden Boot. I don’t see why he should not go for it,” Ogweno told Soka.

Tuyisenge signed a two-year contract with the Kenyan outfit in a reported US$ 40,000 (Rwf30 million) deal.

However, after missing out on the first five matches of the 2016 season due to injury, Tuyisenge announced his arrival to Kenyan football with a goal on his debut against Kakamega Homeboyz in Round Six.

He has since scored five goals in seven league matches, a feat that earned him the Soka Player of the month of April award.

Tuyisenge, who emerged winner with 63.79% of the total votes cast, is the third player to be voted the fans’ best this season. James Saruni of Ulinzi Stars won in February while AFC Leopards striker Kepha Aswani bagged the March edition.

The award comes with a personalized trophy as well as a Ksh 10,000 (Rwf 74000).
