RE: "Research skills: University of Rwanda moves to compel all dons to hold PhD” (The New Times, May 17).

This is an excellent idea. However, I want to believe that this ultimatum does not deprive the students from tapping into great minds. Besides, the best doctors, lawyers, journalists, software developers to name but a few are not necessarily PhD holders. I believe the current academic staff at the college do have skills and knowledge they can pass on to the students.

One of the reasons for bringing some university programmes to the capital Kigali was to tap into the skills of men and women in different professions who were working here.
