The Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) has moved the CECAFA Kagame Cup from Zanzibar to Tanzania.

The Secretary General of CECAFA, Nicholas Musonye, confirmed to that this year’s edition will be held in Dar-es-Salaam, from June 16 through July 2.

"The CECAFA Kagame Cup has been pushed to June-July and will be staged in Dar-es-Salaam. The change was triggered by the prevailing situation in Zanzibar, which is not ready for the event following recent elections, so we didn’t want to over burden them.” Musonye told Soka.

"In any case, Tanzania was on standby (as the alternative hosts). All the 13 countries take part,” Musonye added.

Musonye added that this year’s CECAFA Kagame Cup will be bigger, hinting at an increased figure of prize money.

"We are going to have a very big Kagame Cup this year because we have secured very good sponsorship. Everyone should be assured of one of the best Kagame Cups ever,” Musonye noted.

According to Musonye, the CECAFA U20 has been postponed while the U17 edition is slated for December in Uganda.

The regional football governing body also made changes to the Nile Basin tournament that had been set for May 25 in Sudan. It will now be staged in September following a request from the member associations.

The junior tournament (the CECAFA U17) was moved to December in Uganda, while the U20 edition has been postponed indefinitely because of the crisis in Burundi, the proposed hosts of the tournament.
