House music and jazz enthusiasts were treated to a memorable performance by renowned South African outfit-Mi Casa at People's Club in Kacyiru, on Tuesday night.
After performing at Kigali Serena Hotel, where they entertained guests who are in the country for 26th World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa, the group hit the People’s Club stage at 11p.m, although the show was supposed to start at 10p.m.
There are few performers that can get a dance floor going and Mi Casa is definitely one of them. The trio impressed the crowd with well-known ballads and catchy tunes, and kept them engaged throughout the one-hour act.
The big crowd at People’s Club sang along to most of the band’s songs including La Vida, Jika, and Tuale Fofofo, among others, with most people unable to resist dancing.
The band’s lead vocalist and song writer Joao da Fonseca aka J' Something brought his A-game, weaving his way through the hearts of their fans, with sleek dance moves and constantly reminding them how the band was privileged to perform in Rwanda.
His colleagues, pianist Dr. Duda and Moshe Kgasoane, better known as Mo-T, trumpeter, also interacted well with the audience and people instantly fell in love with their excellent rhythms.
J’Something said that it was a great experience performing in Rwanda for the first time. "We are extremely excited, people turned up in big numbers, and they all entertained. We have realised that the Kigalians are so awesome simply because they never let you down when you’re on the stage; they sing and dance along with you.”
The Award winning house group is in the country for the Africa Code Week, where they are teaching computer programming to young learners. The three-day programme coincides with the World Economic Forum that started in Kigali yesterday.
