The President of African Wushu Federation, Elbashir Alardawi, is set to attend this year’s second edition of the Kung Fu Genocide Memorial tournament set for June 11-12 in Kigali.

The development was confirmed by the Rwanda Kung Fu Federation President, Jackson Mucyo Havugimana, who revealed that the incumbent President will be in Rwanda from June 10-13 to be part of the memorial tournament that is expected to attract all the Zone V countries.

"The president has already confirmed he will be with us during the memorial tournament. It is a great pleasure for us (Kung Fu fraternity) because since getting our official membership in 2014, this will be his first time in Rwanda and East Africa, which is a great indication of our progress,” said Havugimana

He further noted that Rwanda looks to benefit a lot from the four day visit as it will give the country an opportunity to showcase what has been done and priority areas that require support from the continental body.

"We have had noticeable development since the sport was established in Rwanda in 2009, however due to limited capacity, we have not been able to build a strong technical power and we hope his visit will probably provide us with that support,” he added

The local federation was established in 2009 but secured official recognition from International Olympic Committee in 2012 while in 2015, the federation received official membership certificate from the International Wushu Federation (IWUF). Currently there are about 20 clubs in the country.

Meanwhile according Havugimana, preparations for this year’s memorial edition are going pretty well with Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Tanzania having confirmed to participate while other countries from the zone V are expected to confirm later this month.
