IPRC-South defeated UR-Huye on Sunday afternoon to move within two points to win their maiden basketball league title.

The league giants IPRC-South overpowered the varsity side UR- Huye Campus basketball team 94-63 to boost chances of being the next champions, should they overcome bitter rivals Patriots on May 14 in Huye, a clash set to determine who will be the next champions.

IPRC-South started on a faster pace, upsetting the visitors to easily claim the first quarter 24-9 before taking the second quarter 18-13 to go into half-time with a conformable 42-22 lead.

Coming into second-half, Didier Bineza's men returned even more energetic to win the third quarter by 32-18 but struggling UR-Huye's stole a narrow 23-19 win in the last quarter to suffer the 11th defeat out of 17 games played this season.

IPRC-South skipper Bienvenu Niyonsaba scored a game high 20 points while Sunny Niyomugabo added 17 points for the winners. UR-Huye captain Aubin Bizimana (18 points) and small forward Jean Baptiste Kabayiza (15 points) combined for a total 33 points.

Elsewhere, United Generation Basketball (UGB) club beat Rusizi BBC 75-44 in Rusizi to record their 8th victory, improving their win ratio to 8:9 this season.

As it stands after 17 rounds, Patriots, Espoir and IPRC-Kigali top the table with 32 points each but Patriots have played a game less. IPRC-South south are fourth 31 points with a game hand while APR and UGB sit fifth and sixth with 28 and 25 points respectively.
