After winning the opening race of Rwanda Cycling Cup on Saturday, Joseph Areruya will be seeking to continue his winning momentum to lead Amis Sportif of Rwamagana in the next race at the weekend.

Areruya won the "Farmers Race’ from Kigali to Nyagatare, covering a distance of 148.5km after clocking 3h45’37’’ ahead of Benediction Club’s Camera Hakuzimana, who came in second position in a time of 3h45’37’’ while Jean Claude Uwizeyimana (Amis Sportif) was third after clocking3h45’37.’’

"Our target as a team is to win this competition, and I am confident that the team can do it.  We (riders) have got a winning mentality. We have been doing well in many races and in training,” Areruya said.

The 20-year-old, who also rides for the national team added: "We want to win the race because last year we were in good position to do it but we failed at the last minute. We are looking forward to win more races in this year which will give us more points to win the title as team.”

The Race to Remember will run from Bugesera to Kigali plus the circuits while the following weekend they will compete in the Kivu Race from Ngororero to Rubavu + circuits.

The Rwanda Cycling Cup, which is sponsored by Skol and Cogebanque is aimed at discovering young talented cyclists, who can be trained to join the national team for future international competitions.
