Burundian Mohammed Abbas Roshanali, navigated by Lee Youssef Habimana, in a Subaru N10, won the 1st Sprint Rally on Saturday in Bugesera, Nyamata District in the Eastern Province.

Roshanali thrilled rally enthusiasts when he posted the fastest time in the special sections of the 111km sprint that kicked off the local motorsport season.

In section one and two, he clocked a time of 18’32”, ahead of compatriot, Zamin Mwanantebe by 3’11”.Going into the last two sections, Roshanali was determined to win the sprint when he dominated section 4 and 5 with a time of 36’56.”

Mwanantebe finished second, while Fabrice Yoto came third. Unfortunately, only three cars out of eight that started finished the rally. Local favourite Jean Claude Gakwaya, driving a Peugeot 205, retired mid-way through the race, and said he was upset to drop out.
