Rwanda National Police (RNP) is investigating circumstances under which its officer shot two of his colleagues, killing one on Thursday in Busogo Sector of Musanze District.

Assistant Inspector of Police Richard Kabandize, attached to Busogo Police Station, shot and killed Chief Inspector of Police Jean Bosco Mugabo, the Officer in Charge of the police station, according to Police.

The shooting incident took place at around 7:30 am.

"The assailant rushed into one of the Police station buildings, locked himself inside and continued shooting and, in the process, he also injured Sergeant (Sgt) Bigirabagabo Gilbert,” a Police statement signed by spokesperson ACP Celestin Twahirwa said.

It said, that other police officers intervened to neutralise the assailant and, in the due course, he was shot dead.Police has since instituted a team of officers to thoroughly investigate circumstances surrounding the fatal incident, added the statement.
