Kwibuka film screening and conversations continue this week with the Kigali Genocide Memorial screening a film about the role of hate media and propaganda before and during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The event is due this evening, May 5 at the Gisozi-based museum.

Named the ‘Words That Kill’, the film shows the chilling similarities between the propaganda of the Nazi regime and the Hutu Power supremacist ideology, and how the media was used to dehumanize the Tutsi and call for people to kill them.

The film was produced by Aegis Trust in partnership with the USC Shoah Foundation. The evening will also see prominent journalists and researchers discuss the role of propaganda in the lead up to the Genocide against the Tutsi and the responsibility of the media and consumers have today in denouncing divisive and hate messages.
