Pearls: The accessory every woman should have

A pearl necklace; it’s not an accessory you add to your everyday jeans, loose vest and sandals outfit. Like diamonds, pearls and girls connect. You just need to know when and how to wear these dainty accessories.

A pearl necklace; it’s not an accessory you add to your everyday jeans, loose vest and sandals outfit. Like diamonds, pearls and girls connect. You just need to know when and how to wear these dainty accessories.

They can work for many events; a weekend hangout, a cocktail party, a family get together or even the neighbour’s barbeque party. Though they are expensive (at least genuine ones), if you can’t afford a legit set, the city centre is littered with shops that sell knockoffs that are sure to give you the elegant look you desire, at a much cheaper price!

So how does one wear them? For a trendy look, wear multiple strands of pearls. If you like mixing different materials and stones, try wearing jewellery where pearls mix with beads, shells, turquoise stones or with the modern golden chain.

If you are wearing denim, throw a set of pearls on a cute top, blazer and high heels for a classy but casual look.

According to James Habimana, a jewellery designer in Kimironko, women need to follow a few steps before donning pearls;

One should choose a colour that they are comfortable with. It can range from white, purple and orange to translucent, depending on one’s preferences.

Always go for lengthy and multi-strand pearls; this makes it easy to blend with any outfit. You can leave them hanging all the way down to your waist, or fold them twice to make more strands.

For a formal but glamorous look, go for a pearl necklace that looks like it is stitched to your outfit.

Wear them in minimal quantity if you want to add earrings and bangles as you might end up looking overdressed and a tad bit cluttered.

One should not be limited to only one colour, explore different options, you’ll be amazed how awesome it turns out.

For a night out, opt for a mixture of long and short strands, the chunkier the better. With a little black dress or a pant suit, you’ll be sure to rock!
