APR Volleyball Club beat Umubano Blue Tigers on Sunday evening to close the gap on the league leaders and defending champions INATEK, to two points.

The game played at Amahoro Indoor Stadium saw former champions APR easily win in straight sets 3-0 (25-20, 25-18 and 25-19).

In other games, Lycee de Nyanza beat Kigali Volleyball Club 3-1 at Rafiki court in Nyamirambo. INATEK lead the table with 20 points, two points ahead of second-placed APR.

"We have to keep pressure on INATEK. It was a good game because we won easily, but we need to stay calm and try to do even more in the next fixtures,” said APR’s Kenyan trainer, Sammy Mulinge.

In the women category, APR beat IPRC-Kigali 3-0 while Ruhango High School overcame GS St Joseph 3-0.

Meanwhile, the Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) will organise this year’s Genocide Memorial Tournament to honor the victims of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi, on the weekend of June 4-5.

Teams from Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Congo Brazzaville and Burundi are expected to take part in the two-day tournament.

Last year, Rayon Sports (men) and Rwanda Revenue Authority (women) won the tournament after beating APR 3-2 and Nairobi Water 3-0 respectively in the final matches.
