FERWAFA is set to revive the women national football team in preparation for the team to compete in this year’s Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) women’s tournament.

Uganda will host the inaugural edition of the women championship in August. The CECAFA region has 11 member nations namely Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Zanzibar, South Sudan, Sudan and the horn of Africa countries – Somalia, Djibouti and Eritrea.

In 2014, the local football governing body, during its general assembly, decided that both the senior national women’s team and U-17 side would not participate in the 2015 FIFA/CAF competitions.

"We request the fans to be patient; the team is going to be revived since we have the senior CECAFA Women’s Championship as well as the U-17 tournament coming this year,” FERWAFA president, Vincent Nzamwita confirmed on Friday.

The CECAFA U-17 Girls’ Championships will also be staged in Uganda. 

In their last match, She-Amavubi were eliminated by Kenya in the first round of AFCON qualifiers in April 2013, then in June last year, they were hammered 12-1 on aggregate by the Falcons of Nigeria.
