Rayon hurt Mukura as APR beat Bugesera to stay top

Champions APR FC defeated Bugesera FC 1-0 to retain the top spot in the National Football League yesterday at Nyamata turf, Bugesera District.

Midfielder Patrick ‘Pappy’ Sibomana converted the lone goal in the 54th minute to hand Nazir Khanfir’s side the crucial points. During the game, Ali Bizimungu’s team was reduced to 10 after forward Jihad ‘Barrack’ Rucogoza got matching orders after a nasty foul play against APR central defender, Emery Bayisenge.

APR are leading the table with 43 points followed by Rayon Sports (39 points) after beating Mukura Victory Sports (1-0) at Huye Stadium. Ugandan import Davis Kasirye netted the lone goal in the 65th minute to keep pressure on the defending champions.

Elsewhere, Police FC continued to drop points after drawing against struggling Rwamagana. Andre Casa Mbungo’s team remains in 5th position with 32 points while AS Kigali is in 6th place with 31 points after losing to Gicumbi 1-0. Emmanuel Ruremesha’s Gicumbi stays in seventh place with 27 points.

After drawing against Police, Francois Kalisa’s Rwamagana is in 15th position with 11 points same with AS Muhanga which lost to Marines 2-0. Marines jumped to 10th position with 21 points while Bugesera dropped to 11th after losing to APR. 

In other games, Abdul Kalim Gashugi, Fitina Ombalenga and Andre Lomami scored three goals for SC Kiyovu against Musanze FC to keep in third position with 35 points, one goal ahead of Mukura VS who lost to Rayon Sports.

Etincelles beat Sunrise to win their fourth game, thanks to Gentil Salite Kambale and Bodo Ndikumana who scored all important goals. Innocent Senginga’s side is tied in 14th position with Musanze, but Etincelles have one game in hand against Rayon Sports.

Kevin Ishimwe netted the consolation goal for Sunrise two minutes before the end of the first half. Sosthene ‘Lumumba’ Habimana’s Rwamagana remain in 8th position with 24 points.

Espoir dropped to 11th place with 20 points after playing goalless against Amagaju in Rusizi while the Nyamagabe-based side remains in 12th position with 20 points
