Two Police Constables arrested over bribe

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has arrested two traffic officers who were caught red-handed taking a bribe. The two officers, identified as Police Constable (PC) Jean de Dieu Ntirenganya and PC Jean Bosco Kayitare, were apprehended on Tuesday at 2am during a routine Police inspections.

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has arrested two traffic officers who were caught red-handed taking a bribe.

The two officers, identified as Police Constable (PC) Jean de Dieu Ntirenganya and PC Jean Bosco Kayitare, were apprehended on Tuesday at 2am during a routine Police inspections.

During the arrest, a thorough body search was conducted on the two officers and they were found with over Rwf20, 000 each whose source they could not justify.

Policy in Rwanda National Police is zero tolerance to corruption and related malpractices the suspects are expected to be prosecuted and dismissed from the Police. Previously we arrested a number of officers involved in corruption and their cases were resolved,” said the Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Celestin Twahirwa.

Records from Police indicate that since 2013, over 100 officers were arrested in graft related cases and most of them were dismissed from police.

Also, close to 400 civilians were arrested in the same time-frame over corruption related charges.
