Albert Butare, the CEO and chairman of Africa Energy Services Group - Rwanda, has been nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award in the third annual African Utility Week Industry Awards scheduled for next month. 

Akinwole Omoboriowo II, the chief executive officer of Nigeria’s Genesis Energy, Anton Eberhard, a professor at the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town in South Africa and Elham Mahmood Ahmed Ibrahim, the commissioner for infrastructure and energy at the African Union head offices in Ethiopia are also in the running for the award.

Others are Grania Rosette Rubomboras, the programme officer Power Projects at Nile Basin Initiative NELSAP, Uganda, South Africa’s Hamanth Kasan, the general manager of Scientific Services Water, Rand Water; Henry Paul Batchi Baldeh, the senior vice-president and head of Power, Africa Finance Corporation, Nigeria, as well as Hindpal S. Jabbal, the former chairman of Kenya’s Energy Regulatory Commission, Jacob Kow Mensah, a clean and alternative energy researcher and inventor, from Ghana, and Kandeh Yumkella, the chief executive of SE4All Initiative in Sierra Leone.

About 10 other awards in different categories will be up for grabs on May 18, during the annual African Utility Week and Clean Power Africa in Cape Town, South Africa. They include Energy/Water Efficiency Project of the Year, Power/Water Woman of the Year, Future Leader Award, Community Development Project of the Year, Pioneer in Project Finance, Clean Energy Project of the Year, Water Utility Executive of the Year, Water Utility of the Year, Power Utility Executive of the Year, Power Utility of the Year.
