National women volleyball league champions, Rwanda Revenue Authority have departed for Tunisia ahead of this year’s Women’s African Club Championship slated for April 22-30.

Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye’s side left the country on Wednesday morning ahead of the event. "We are well prepared going into the tournament, which is a very big event on the African calendar. We know we’re going to face strong opponents but we are ready for the challenge,” he added.

Before departure, the team was joined by Seraphine Mukantambara and Charlotte Nzayisenga, who finished in second position in Olympic Games Beach Volleyball qualifiers, last week in Abuja, Nigeria.

Last year, RRA finished in sixth position after beating experienced Cameroonian side FAP 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-21) in the classification match.

This year’s event was initially supposed to be hosted by Kenya only to withdraw from staging it less than 8 weeks to the event. The African Volleyball Confederation confirmed Tunisia as the replacement host.

Kenya previously organized the African Women’s Club Championship in 2005, 2009, 2011 and 2012 while Tunisia last organised the event in 2014.

The Rwandan champions will be looking for a good outing in a competition which is expected to attract the best 16 clubs on the continent, including the holders Ahly Cairo, and record winners Kenya Pipeline, who have seven titles.
