Champions  APR defeated Mukura Victory Sports 2-1 to return to the top of the National Football League at Huye Stadium, yesterday.

Goals from Jean Claude Iranzi and Fiston Nkezingabo were enough to give Nizar Khanfir’s team maximum points.

APR is now leading the table with 37 points while Rayon Sports are in second position with 36 points after drawing against AS Kigali.

Meanwhile, Rayon Sports drew 1-1 against AS Kigali to drop to second spot in a match played yesterday afternoon at Kigali Regional Stadium. Mukura remains in 3rd position with 32 points.

Central defender, Thierry Manzi scored the opening goal in the 15th minute after a well taken free kick from Cedric Mugenzi while Amavubi striker Ernest Sugira equalised in the 37th minute after beating two defenders and goalie Eric ‘Bakame’ Ndayinshimiye. Rayon Sports dropped to second position with 36 points, AS Kigali remain in fifth position with 30 points while Police FC are in fourth position with 31 points after losing to Bugesera 2-0.

In the first half, Rayon Sports dominated the hosts but failed to find the back of the net after players like Ismailia Diarra, Savio Dominique Nshuti and Davis Kasirye failed to go past Ugandan born Shamilu Batte.

In the second half, City of Kigali side dominated the game, but Amini Mwizerwa, Rodriguez Murengezi, Eric Nsabimana, and Ernest Sugira failed to find the back of the net.

Elsewhere, Andre Casa Mbungo’s Police lost 2-0 away against Bugesera FC, thanks to Jihad Rucogoza and Michel Barrack Nduwimana. Ali Bizimungu’s side jumped to eighth position with 23 points same with Gicumbi who drew 1-1 against 13th placed Musanze with 16 points.

Etincelles FC beat Rwamagana 2-1 to register their third win of the season, Innocent Seninga’s team remains in 14th position with 14 points. Rwamagana dropped to the relegation zone with ten points, one point behind Muhanga who jumped to 15th position with 11 points.

On Tuesday, AS Muhanga registered their first victory of the season after seeing off Amagaju FC 4-1 at Muhanga Regional Stadium.

AS Muhanga sit bottom of the league with eight points in 17 matches. Amagaju FC sits in tenth position with 19 points.
