The highly anticipated ‘Rwanda-Burundi Night’ in the Ugandan capital Kampala did not live up to its billing as torrential rains on Friday evening interfered with the event.

Despite the huge turn up, rain dampened the mood and affected planned performance, with the show abandoned before Jose Chameleone and the Good Lyfe duo of Radio and Weasel could perform.

Nevertheless partygoers tried to make the most of it despite the rain carrying on till late, forcing organisers to prematurely halt the event which was held at Cayenne Lounge in the Kampala suburb of Bukoto.

Hundreds of people had showed up in anticipation of great performances. The show, which started on time, at 9:30pm Ugandan time, was hosted by socialite Judith Heard and comedian Arthur Nkusi.

Rwandan singer Jody Phibi was the first on stage, performing a number of her songs, including some she has collaborated with Ugandan artistes, setting the mood for the evening.

After Jody, girl duo Charly and Nina came on and sang several of their songs as well as popular Rwandan songs, before they were joined on stage by Burundian star Big Fariouz to perform their famous club banger ‘Indoro’.

Deejay Pius was next on stage, performing a number of songs before he was joined by Ugandan singer Ray Signature. Pius was expected to be joined by Chameleone on stage to launch their new song Agatako.

However, at this point the rain was intensifying and Pius was forced to abandon the stage. Organisers waited for the rain to subside in vain.

Both Chameleone and the Good Lyfe duo were at the venue waiting for the rain to reduce, which was never to happen, until the organisers called off the event.

Despite the disappointment, those who attended the red carpet event did not give in to the rain, continuing to party through the night, despite the main acts not performing.

Revellers who parted with UGX25,000 and UGX500, 000 for tables did not complain much since it was not the fault of organisers but nature.
