Women football league title hopefuls Kamonyi FC had their pursuit for this year’s glory halted after sharing spoils in a 1-1 draw with Huye-based Les Lioness FC on Saturday at Kamonyi ground.

Les Lionnes striker Claudette Uwineza had put the visitors into the lead at the 20th minute before forward Calixte Iradukunda scored the equalizer for the home team in the 78th minute.

"We were just unlucky, we played good football, dominated the game and created many chances but failed to put them to good use mainly because of a poor pitch, that was too muddy due to rain,” said Kamonyi assistant coach Bonaventure Nsengyimana.

The match between Golden Generation and Gakenke ended in a barren draw at Rugende ground, while Nyagatare FC, who were playing their first league game after suffering double forfeit defeats, were walloped by Rambura 11-0 in Nyagatare.

Meanwhile, defending champions and favourites AS Kigali today travel to Nyamata to face Bugesera FC at Kanyamabuye ground seeking to win and take top spot.
