Paralympian Hermas Muvunyi is set to travel to Luxembourg for intensive training as part of his preparations ahead of the 2016 Paralympics Games in Brazil, according to the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) secretary general, Eric Karasira.

The opportunity for the 28-year-old to train in Europe comes weeks after displaying top form to win two medals, including one gold and one bronze at the 10th IPC Grand Prix de Tunis last month.

"Muvunyi will train in Europe, courtesy of our partnership with the Luxembourg NPC. We are yet to decide exactly when he will travel and the time he will spend there, it will be determined after processing all the required paperwork,” Karasira said on Wednesday.

Karasira, who also doubles as the athlete’s trainer, noted that, "Muvunyi has proved himself a big asset to the nation, and therefore, we are trying to prepare him in the best way possible to challenge for a medal on Rio.”

During his residential training camp in Luxembourg, former world champion Muvunyi will also compete in some European competitions, to test himself against Europe’s best.

Muvunyi, who is also the reigning national champion, earned his minima from IPC World Championships in Qatar last year—he will represent the country in Men’s T46- 400m and 1500m categories.

Apart from Muvunyi, the national women’s sitting volleyball team has already booked their ticket to Rio Paralympics. Sprinter Jean Claude Ndayisenga is in category B of qualifications, which is the waiting list.
