The Minister for Infrastructure, James Musoni, yesterday, conducted an assessment tour of Kigali Heights, a modern commercial and office complex that is under construction in Kimihurura.

Musoni lauded the progress made so far in the construction works.

The construction works kicked off in February 2014 and completion is scheduled for June this year.

"We are impressed with the progress. We hope by the time the African Union summit starts, construction works will have been completed,” he said after touring the complex.

Kigali is scheduled to host an AU summit in July this year.

Denis Karera, the managing director of Kigali Heights, said despite encountering various challenges, the project is expected to be completed on time.

"We are in the final phases of construction. We have experienced heavy rains lately and this has affected works, but we are working hard and we expect to meet the deadline,” Karera said.

Daniel Kamau, the executive director of Fusion Capital, a Kenyan firm which partially financed the project, said significant progress has been made.

The complex will have 6,000 square meters for retail, which has mostly been booked, as well as 12,000 square meters for offices.

According to the letting agency, Century Real Estate Rwanda, about 80 per cent of the available retail space as well as 30 per cent for the office space has already been booked.

Both local and international brands have taken up space at the facility located in a prime and high traffic area of Kigali.

The complex, that has parking facilities for over 300 vehicles, is across the yet-to-be completed Kigali Convention Centre that is scheduled to host the African Union Summit.
