RE: "School life: Why observing uniformity is very crucial” (The New Times, March 23).

When are we going to stop perpetuating these falsehoods that we imported from Europeans? When?

Instead of focusing on the amount of inches of hair that are acceptable for an establishment, we should actually teach our youngsters to love and cherish their natural and God-given looks instead of subscribing to a shallow and unattainable standard of beauty that even the inventors of which (read: Westerners) are slowly getting rid of for its obvious toxic ramifications.

We can’t teach Rwanda’s next generation by telling them what to think. Or how to think. Or when to think. It starts within which is where self-dignity truly resides – the rest will take care of itself.

These remnants of a long gone era when nuns and priests were in charge of our education need to be dismantled and sent packing, along with everything else these so called men and women of God ever introduced to society.
