When Safi got drunk on fame

There is no doubt that local boy band Urban Boyz is doing well. Their songs have consistently been hits for the last one year and they seem to be booked to perform every other weekend. But is their member Safi Niyibikora, commonly known as Safi Madiba, getting drunk on the fame? Maybe upcoming singer Justin Gaju, commonly known as Kid Gaju, knows better.

Apparently, as the young artiste launched his album last weekend, many revelers were left in shock when he gave shootouts to Safi Madiba and invited him to the stage, only for the latter to completely ignore the request.

To save Kid Gaju from the embarrassment, Nshimiyimana Mohammed, commonly known as Nizzo, the other member of Urban Boyz, picked the microphone and performed to the delight of around 400 fans who had showed up for the launch.

Kid Gaju is said to still be very angry mostly because he had been sitting with the group for a long time during the curtain raising performances and they had prior knowledge that they would perform. Why Safi Madiba pulled this stunt is still a mystery, but one thing is for sure, Kid Gaju is not sitting on the same table with him anytime soon.

Christopher is back with ‘Abasitari’

Christopher

Silk voiced RnB singer Christopher Muneza, commonly referred to as Christopher, is back and this time; he is here with the latest video of his single Abasitari. In Abisitari, Christopher tells a story of the trials of dating, pointing out how it has become easy for people to overlook real love and instead concentrate on beauty.

Muneza, who is only 22, first hit Rwandan airwaves a few years ago when he collaborated with Danny Nanone to sing love ballad Iri Joro, a song that has been viewed more than 150,000 times on YouTube. The star is set to release a number of other songs this year and an album launch could be in the works.

Christopher’s music has received a lot of airplay since 2012, when he was signed by Kina Music, which is the home to big names like Knowless and Tom Close. He has stayed with the label since; releasing songs like Habona, Sigaho, Ndakabya and Urubavu among others. In 2014, he was the winner of the Salax ‘Best RnB Artiste of the Year’ award.

Anangwe joins Royal TV

Eugene Anangwe started off as a familiar voice, hosting radio shows on different radio stations. He later joined TV 10 as a news anchor but Anangwe only got to strike a chord when he started producing and hosting Debate 411 on RBA’s Rwanda Television. Anangwe recently announced that he was joining Royal TV and with him, he was taking Debate411.

This seems to have caused debate on social media as his followers took to different platforms to appeal to the management of RBA to renew his contract to allow him to stay and continue hosting the show.  Anangwe is meanwhile ready to take on his new position as the Head of Production and Business Development  at Royal TV Rwanda.

Gahongayire ventures into beauty contests

Aline Gahongayire

Aline Gahongayire is popular for her inspiring gospel songs, but that has not limited her from venturing into the fashion world. The talented singer is said to have thought of this venture as a way for women to share tips on how to deal with their weight gain issues, to encourage them not to succumb to the stigma and stereotypes from society, but most importantly to remember that weight issues are not permanent.

Gahongayire, who runs ‘Alga Plus-Size Fashion’ at one point weighed 119kgs but has reduced to 79Kgs and is said to be keen on how she managed to get where she is. The search for the 15 women who will compete is on and the finals are scheduled for May this year.

No curtain raisers for Kayirebwa

Cecile Kayirebwa

Cecile Kayirebwa is as popular for her beautiful voice as she is for her diva behaviour and it’s well deserved. The Brussels-based singer, who has been performing for 30 years, is in Kigali where she will have only one concert on Easter Sunday at Hotel des Mille Collines by Kempinsky.

Kayirebwa, who unlike almost all artistes, will not have curtain raisers, took to her social media pages to say that the doors will open at 5pm and she will start singing exactly one hour later and only 300 seats will be available at the highly anticipated concert.

Kayirebwa is famous for songs like Intumwa Zanjye, Abuzukuru, Inzozi Data Yandoteye, Ubutumwa, Babyeyi, and Ubupfubyi among others.

P- Square in a ‘game of twins’

They are called the Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi of African music. They are rich and talented so why is Nigeria’s dynamic duo; P-Square flirting with the idea of splitting?

Rumours about issues between the two brothers have been ongoing but until this year when they each sung a solo song, no one had taken them seriously.

P-Square

Peter Okoye last week took to social media to announce that they were officially over. He proceeded to give an exclusive interview where he accused his twin brother and their elder brother; Jude Okoye, of sidelining and disrespecting him. Peter Okoye then also blamed Jude Okoye for, as a manager, failing to resolve the issues between them.

This is sad for music lovers who have followed the twins for the last 14 years as they recorded a total of six studio albums, including Game Over, the group’s best-selling album that sold over 8 million copies all over the world.

Though the brothers now say that they are back together and claim that they now realise that family comes first, their fans are not really sure if the animosity between the two is completely buried. We will keep you posted.
