Kamonyi Women FC are set to be awarded a forfeit (3-0) win over Nyagatare FC after the Eastern-based side failed to show up on the opening day of the national women football league on Sunday.

Other three fixtures managed to go ahead as planned. Les Lionnes registered the biggest win of the opening weekend with 5-0 victory against Golden Generation. Inyemera and Bugesera shared a goalless draw while Rambura and Gakenke also drew 1-1.

"Nyagatare claim that they did not honor the fixture because they have many student-players, who are currently at school, but this is a national league not an inter-school competition.

We shall sit to decide on the way forward, but I don’t think there is chance for the game to be rescheduled,” said Albert Mwanafunzi, head of competitions commission at FERWAFA.

Kamonyi finished second last season, four points behind AS Kigali, who begin their campaign for a record-extending 8th consecutive title this weekend on Saturday against Gakenke FC.
