Kamonyi vow to end AS Kigali's 7-year grip on women league title

Kamonyi Women Football Club go into the 2016 season seeking to end AS Kigali’s seven-year grip on the national women football league. The new campaign gets underway today.

The Kamonyi District-based side finished second, four points behind AS Kigali however; head coach Emmanuel Habiyambere says they determined to make amends this season and win the title. They kick off their campaign for a first league title against Nyagatare FC.

"Our target is the title and we’re fully determined to fight hard for it, we have signed new players and our preparations have been excellent. We’re looking forward to win each game starting with Nyagatare,” said Habiyambere.

Kamonyi’s new signings include; holding midfielder Albertine Mukashema and striker Diane Umumararungu, both from Gicumbi-based Inyemera FC.

This year’s national football league will be comprised of nine clubs namely; AS Kigali, Kamonyi, Les Lionnes, Golden Generation, Inyemera, Bugesera, Rambura and Gakenke.
