RE: "The Rwandan Dream and the world we live in” (The New Times, March 14).

It is indeed right that the President cautions our leaders against complacency.

We have certainly moved a long way from our 1994 depths, notching up a lot of successes on the way for which we should be rightly proud.

But the majority of our people continue to be desperately poor and our national resources remain extremely inadequate to our developmental needs. Without sliding into debilitating discouragement, it is therefore much more important to focus on what remains to be done – nay, must be done, if we are to attain our ambitious goals, than to pat ourselves on the back in self-satisfaction.

This is why the continuing presence of our national CEO at the helm of Rwanda, Inc., extolling all of us to greater individual and focused collective effort towards our common and absolutely necessary goals is so talismanic and reassuring.
