MTN Rwanda pledges more support to women in ICT

Rwanda’s leading mobile network MTN has commended women’s efforts geared towards developing the country.

The telecom company reiterated it’s commitment to support women activities especially promoting ICT and poverty reduction in the country.

Mary Asiimwe, the General Manager in charge of Corporate Affairs and Human Resources at MTN, said the telecom firm recognises and appreciates the role played by women in driving the country’s economic growth.

She was speaking during the Women’s day celebrations at the MTN headquarters in Nyarutarama.

Recognising women in ICT

Meanwhile, the company recognized 4 women for their efforts and role in promoting ICT sector in the country.

They include; Annita Kabatende, the Network Switching Systems Manager, Betty Dusabe, the Network Operations Centre supervisor, Melissa Karemera, the Radio Access Network engineer and Sarah Umutoni, the Network Operations Centre Engineer all employees of MTN Rwanda.

Lucy Mbabazi, the Visa country manager urged Women to embrace ICT as an enabler to growing business and becoming more productive.

"Women do not have lots of role models in the technology field so we need to set great examples for our children, beginning now.”

Not only do we commend all the women in the country for their sacrifices and commitments, but also their desire to invest in sectors which were predominantly dominated by men, she added.

Recently, MTN Rwanda announced the launch of 4G LTE on mobile phones enabling customers to make voice calls and use mobile data on the 4G LTE network.
