Tennis junior team ready for Africa Junior Championship

Rwanda national tennis junior team is undergoing final preparations at Amahoro tennis grounds ahead of the 39th ITF/CAT Africa Junior Championship slated for March 8-20 in Pretoria, South Africa.

The team of six players; three boys and three girls, will play in two categories namely; 16 & under and 14 & under. The players have been in intensive training for the past three weeks under the close eye of head coach Jean Pierre Nshimiyimana.

Speaking to Times Sport on Wednesday, Nshimiyimana said preparations have gone pretty well and is focusing more on improving the youngsters’ confidence.

"We have had enough time to rectify the mistakes we encountered during the previous junior championship in Kenya and we are now ready to represent the country a lot better,” said Nshimiyimana.

The Rwandan team booked the ticket to the annual continental championship during the East African Zonal ITF/CAT Junior Championship that was held in Nairobi, Kenya from January 10-17.

The boys’ team includes; Fabrice Tuyishime and Brian Ndahiro, who compete in the 16 & under category while Joseph Kiiza will vie for honors in the 14 & under.

In the girls’ fray, the country will be represented by Chantal Mutuyimana and Clenia Niyonshima (16 & under) with Grace Gisubizo Ndahunga competing in the 14 & under category.
