MTN Rwanda yesterday announced the launch of 4G LTE on mobile phones enabling customers to make voice calls and use mobile data on the 4G LTE network.

This latest development allows customers to maintain a full 4G experience during a call. This means voice and data stay on the same part of the network, therefore giving consistently high surfing speeds, even while making phone calls.

According to the MTN Chief Executive Officer, Gunter Engling, the telecom company seeks to provide customers with the best possible user experience with new innovative technologies through 4G LTE.

"The introduction of 4G LTE is an additional value to our data offerings and gives customers the option to browse on the 2G, 3G, 3.75G and now 4G networks. We would like to ensure consistently reliable services for all existing customers and also enable many more of our subscribers to enjoy 4G mobile technology,” Engling, said.

The new offer is in line with MTN’s vision of providing a bold, new Digital World to its customers and is set to transform the way consumers use 4G Internet as well as enable customers to take advantage of the best services MTN offers, a statement from the company read in part.

Han-Sung Yoon (Patrick), Chief Executive Officer of olleh Rwanda networks, the 4G LTE infrastructure providers commented, pledged continuous support towards establishing more innovative solutions based on 4G LTE technology.

MTN becomes the second telecom company to launch the service after TIGO.

How it works

To access the service, subscribers will have to upgrade their SIM cards to a 4G and will pay Rwf1, 000.

Once connected to the 4G network, customers will dial *345# and select the 4G bundle to purchase a daily, weekly or monthly pack.
