Sulfo Rwanda Industries, one of the leading manufacturing companies in Rwanda has been awarded the prestigious I.S.O. 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System Certification. This was after their ‘Source du Nil’ pure drinking water, past the rigorous quality standards tests.

"Our brand (Source du Nil) is the first packaged drinking water in the whole of Africa to get this kind of certification,” Dharma Rajan, the Chief Executive Officer of Sulfo Rwanda Industries said in a statement.

The certification was introduced in 2005 and is issued by United Registrar of Systems, a United Kingdom based company which is also a member of Registrar of Standards (Holdings) Ltd.

Sulfo Rwanda, therefore, has an overall safety policy in the organisation; keeps high standards of hygiene, ensures meticulous care in all stages right from procurement of raw materials to the final product and continually updates the food safety and management system among others.

This is not the first time that Source du Nil has attained such quality certification. The product was also the first packaged pure drinking water to acquire the Rwanda Bureau of Standards (RBS) quality mark on Match 24 this year. Apparently only two Rwandan products have obtained this quality mark, including Mutiz.

Sulfo management is very confident that the ISO 22000: 2005 certification will strengthen the public trust in its product hence giving it an edge over competition.

The company emphasises high safety standards in production of her Source du Nil water because after air, water is very essential to life.

Since our bodies lose water whenever we exert, it is necessary to drink plenty of pure water to compensate the loss.

Besides pure drinking water, Sulfo industries also manufacture laundry and toilet soaps, cosmetics, liquid detergents, confectionery, and plastic moldings among others.

The company is also the sole supplier of Unilever products in Rwanda, it is engaged in trading and market development activities which involve automotive spares, automobiles, L.P gas and they are authorized dealers of Unilever products, Emami products and PZ cussons.
