Egyptian collections rock fashion night

It was a rich mix of fashion and culture at the Afro-Egyptian Fashion Night at Cleopatras Bar and Restaurant in Kimihurura on Friday evening.

It was a rich mix of fashion and culture at the Afro-Egyptian Fashion Night at Cleopatras Bar and Restaurant in Kimihurura on Friday evening.

Organised by Kigali Fashion Week, the event attracted a fine crowd that included members of the diplomatic community.

The activities of the night included a fashion display by various fashion houses, jazz music and acrobatics.

The fashion display started with an ancient Egypt-themed collection. Other fashion houses like Davy Carmel Designs from Burundi, Cedric Designs, Modern Tailoring and Fashion Design and Moshions showcased their collections.

Mutsari Murefu, the "The King of Rwandan Jazz”, and band impressed with renditions of Red House and Hey Joe. Guest performers Paul Searby of Mr Chips and a one Albert Tosh playing a harmonica also delivered beautiful renditions of classic jazz and blues hits like FeelinAlright and Unchain My Heart. The last performance was Oye Como Va.

After a power glitch that delayed the start of the show, the acrobats impressed the audience with their juggling, tricks on uni-cycles, pulling off some really exciting routines. Guests were also treated to a free cocktail.

John Bunyeshuli, the CEO of Kigali Fashion Week, said the event was a success and more events are lined up.
