Good upbringing; supportive friends; a conducive environment; discipline, hard work and close monitoring from teachers pushed Samantha Teta to emerge among top female candidates in arts in 2015 A level exam results released yesterday.

Born in the City of Kigali in 1997, Teta, studied at Nu-vision High School in Gasabo District.

She joined the school 5 years ago and took History, Economics and Geography.

Although she aspires to be among the best Economists in the world, she says she long committed to serving her country.

She has been doing internship at The New Times Publications, and the news of her stellar performance broke while she was covering the same exam story at the Education ministry.

Teta poses for the camera after the results release.

To her surprise, she noticed her name featured among the top (second) in the arts combination; excited, she almost jumped off the chair as the Minister proceeded with his speech on the performance.

Teta joined The New Times in November to satisfy her writing passion, and her editors say she is a quick learner. She applied to study at University of British Colombia in Canada to pursue a Liberal Arts programme.

Teta commends the support she received from her family, which she says set grounds for discipline and knowledge acquisition that enabled her to make strong decisions.
