Africhem Rwanda Ltd has entered into an agreement with the Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) to carry out maintenance works on the Kicukiro cricket oval, the only certified cricket ground in the country.

According to officials,  Africhem will disinfect active anthills as well as level the parts of the ground that are currently uneven, at a cost of over Rwf2 million.

The Managing Director of Africhem Rwanda Ltd, Paolo Paganin, said that, "Like any sport, cricket is a very important sport that should be played on a smart and flat ground; therefore, we decided to use our products to do the renovation of the ground.”

"We are really glad that Africhem has come on board to help us maintain the ground because proper playing grounds facilitate the growth of the game,” said RCA vice president, Srinath Vardhineni.

RCA’s administrative officer, Jean Marie Hitayezu, said that Kicukiro cricket ground hosts more than 140 cricket games every year with all the 14 local clubs (nine men and five women clubs) playing their games at this pitch.

Schools within the City of Kigali, including primary and secondary schools also play their cricket games at this ground, attracting up to 5000 players throughout the year. The ground is also used for developmental programmes at community level as well as other cricket related activities.
