Burundi’s Matabaro not happy with Rwandan artistes

He may have been the winner of Burundi’s Primusic 2013 (Burundi’s version of Primus GumaGuma Superstar) singing competition and could be one of the hottest musicians in his country right now, but Rwandan musicians seem to be unmoved by Patient Matabaro’s accolades.

Matabaro, who has been in Kigali for a short time, came with high expectations of pushing his music beyond Burundian borders, and his mind was set on Rwandan local musicians.

To his disappointment, it is said that besides asking some local artistes that he considered friends for collaborations and being turned down, the talented singer was hit in the face that some of them didn’t even know who he was.

Matabaro was heard telling friends that back home, sharing, socialising and working together is the simplest to come by but he cannot say the same for the music industry in Rwanda.

Meddie Saleh shoots Koffi Olomide’s new video

He has worked with local boyband ‘Active’ on their Active Love, Tonight and Nicyo Naremewe music videos. He also worked with King James on his hit videos Yantumye and Naramukundaga.

The list also includes  Mani Martin’s Same Room,  Knowless Butera’s Peke Yangu and Teta Diana’s  Velo among other hit videos.

Now, the video production maestro Meddie Saleh is spreading his wings, thanks to a rumored gig in the Democratic Republic of Congo where he will be part of the team to shoot the video of Koffi Olomide’s latest single Selfie.

If this deal works, it will put Saleh on the table of one of the best music video producers since most of the videos like On Fire and Bubble by Uganda’s Pallaso are already being aired on international televisions like Trace TV.

The singer had initially planned, in collaboration with Positive Production, for other established artistes from France to join her on a tour of all East African countries, but she had to cancel the trip at the last minute because the music commitments in Kigali combined with caring for a baby were taking a toll on her.

She is said to be planning to reschedule the tour for end of this year or early 2017. We will keep you posted.
