Rwanda is likely to see an increase in the quality of locally produced goods in the market following a joint initiative to train producers on quality improvement and management systems.

The training which kicked off today in Kigali is an initiative of the COMESA Business, Rwanda Private Sector Federation (PSF) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry with an aim of improving competitiveness, quality control and consistency of supply of products in the regional market.

The training workshop is focusing on suppliers of fruits and vegetables, dairy and dairy products, apiculture, and cassava among others with an aim to link them to potential buyers from the food and beverages industry, hospitality industry and the retail outlets such as supermarket chains.

Commenting on the initiative, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Emmanuel Hategeka said that the training on standards and safety requirements for enterprises would go a long way in boosting markets for local producers.

The Council’s CEO, Sandra Uwera, said that the sessions would help upgrade local producers and enterprises to meet the demands of urban consumers further integrating them into supply chains of regional industries.
