Rwanda to face Uganda in 2017 AYC U20 first round

Rwanda U20 national team will play against Uganda in first round of the 2017 African Youth Championship qualifiers-the championship is scheduled to take place in Zambia.

Rwanda U20 national team will play against Uganda in first round of the 2017 African Youth Championship qualifiers—the championship is scheduled to take place in Zambia.

The qualifiers will start in April with the first qualifying round phase to be played from April 1-3 and the return leg set for the weekend of April 22-24.

The teams which will not play the first round include South Africa , Benin , Burkina Faso , Cameroon , Congo , Ivory Coast , Gabon, Ghana , Egypt, Lesotho , Libya, Mali , Morocco , Malawi, Nigeria and Senegal.

Nigeria is defending champion. In the qualifiers for the last edition, Rwanda was eliminated in second round by Gabon. Rwanda proceeded to the second round after their would-be opponents, South Sudan pulled out.

Last year, Uganda U-23 beat Rwanda twice during the second round of Olympic Qualifiers 2-1 in Kigali and 2-0 in Kampala, and a year before, Uganda U17 team, led by Farouk Miya, eliminated Rwanda in the qualifiers for the continental youth championship.
