Undiplomatic behavior should not be tolerated

RE: "Uganda warns foreign diplomats against meddling in its politics” (The New Times, February 2).

These so-called diplomats believe they are entitled to engage in activities in our countries that would get our own diplomats in their own countries thrown out very quickly, and the locals with whom they are working prosecuted.

They used to do these kinds of things clandestinely, but have now become completely brazen about it.

Still, I blame our own governments for permitting it—for failing to nip this undiplomatic behaviour in the bud when it first manifested itself.

Worse, some governments may themselves invite such foreign meddling by soliciting foreign governments’ support against their own oppositions. That way, they invite the fox into the hen-house and it becomes impossible to control its predatory behaviour once it is inside.
