Ibenge turns focus to AFCON, World Cup qualifiers

After lifting the 2016 Africa Nations Championship, Democratic Republic of Congo head coach Jean Florent Ibenge has turned focus on the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and 2018 World Cup campaigns.

After lifting the 2016 Africa Nations Championship, Democratic Republic of Congo head coach Jean Florent Ibenge has turned focus on the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and 2018 World Cup campaigns.

"I have confidence in every player I have. We are ready for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. My wish is to play in World Cup to make history in my coaching career,” Ibenge said.Ibenge believes his team will continue with their current form during the 2017 Nations Cup and 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Ibenge said, "The next fixtures will be tough, but we have to give our best. Nothing can stop us from beating any team. Nothing can stop us from getting good results in next fixtures.”

"We also cannot just sit and think we will go into finals tournaments. It’s about the kind of changes you get playing against these different countries. You learn different approaches in order to do better.” Ibenge addedDR Congo became the maiden country to win the CHAN trophy for the second time in the history of the championship.

A brace from Don Bosco FC midfielder, Elia Mechak and a late goal by TP Mazembe forward, Jonathan Bolingi Mpangi were enough for DR Congo to win the second title.
