The annual Emmanuel Kayumba memorial volleyball tournament is set for January 13-14 at Group Scolaire de Butare courts, in Huye.

According to Father Celestin Rwirangira, the headmaster of Group Scolaire de Butare, the annual tournament will attract all eight league teams including six for women.

The tournament is held in memory of Kayumba who passed away in 2009. He was instrumental in the growth of volleyball in Group Scolaire de Butare.

"We are going to have a good tournament and teams will use the matches as pre season preparations, which will help them to raise the level of their players,” Father Rwirangira told this paper.

The women teams include APR, Ruhango, Notre Dame de La Providence, Rwanda Revenue Authority, ST Alloys and Nyanza.

APR, Rayon Sports, Kirehe VC, UR Huye, IPRC Huye, Lycee de Nyanza, Groupe Scolaire de Butare, Umubano Blue Tigers, College de Christ Roi, Mamba Club, Tout Age, Umucyo VC and Kigali Volleyball Club will square up in the men’s category.

Ruhango, St Alloys and Tout Age will be competing for the women category. Last year, Amical from Burundi won the title after defeating KVC of Rwanda 3-0 while in women category; Rwanda Revenue Authority from Rwanda beat Ruhango Volleyball Club 3-1 in final to win the title.
