Uganda's Kivejinja sworn in as EALA ex-officio member

The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) this Wednesday received the oath of Dr Ali Haji Kirunda Kivejinja, Uganda’s 3rd Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs as an Ex-Officio Member.

The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) this Wednesday received the oath of Dr Ali Haji Kirunda Kivejinja, Uganda’s 3rd Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs as an Ex-Officio Member.

According to a statement, the oath was administered by the Clerk of EALA, before the House Speaker, Daniel F. Kidega in a ceremony held in Arusha, Tanzania.

Kivenjinja took the oath in accordance with Rule 5 of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly, which stipulates that; "No member can sit or participate in the proceedings of the House until the Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance to the Treaty is taken”.

He has served in several positions in the Ugandan government. In 1986, he was appointed Minister of Relief and Social Rehabilitation. He has also since served as Minister of Internal Affairs among other duties.
