Kigali Marriot Hotel staff joined Kanyinya sector residents in Nyarugenge District to plant more than 500 trees on the hills of Taba. The exercise was in line with environment protection and took place last Saturday during Umuganda (community work).

Peter Mukulu, the director of sales and marketing at Marriot Hotel Kigali, said participating in community service with local residents symbolised partnership between the company and the community in which they are operating.

"Marriot Hotel cares about both environmental and community welfare. I am very excited to have participated in the tree planting exercise. We have planted three species of trees and it will be great to come back in future to see the progress and even be able to plant more trees in this community. This shows the community that we are taking the lead role in conserving environment,” Mukulu said.

He added that the company ensures that all their employees participate in community activities.

"It is part of our culture that we support the community in which we operate. It is good for our company to be a role model in contributing to the community. The world is becoming warmer due to climate change and that’s because we are not respecting the environment,” he observed.

He said each of their employees plays a part in conserving the environment to make the world a better place to live in.

"It is important that any company in whatever environment they operate in focus and protect the environment,” Mukulu added.
